PETER LAYTON BIOGRAPHY

Hi. My name is Peter Layton, and this is my unconventional bio sheet. Most of the bio sheets I have seen should be called brag sheets, and could be marketed for insomnia. Hopefully, this one will be a bit more enjoyable.

I was born in Huntington, Long Island, New York, and moved
with my family to southern California when I was seven.
I began studying guitar at the age of ten, and started
composing in high school, (decomposing came much later).

While obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources (I wanted to be a forest ranger--. Ranger Pete) at Humboldt State University in northern California, I minored in music and played bass in a locally successful rock band-- something I enjoyed much more than studying. The band was called Jeffrey B. and the Hot Nutz, believe it or not, and we appeared on local and national television and radio. I began showcasing as a solo artist at that time as well, performing my originals on campus and at several of the local clubs.

Shortly after graduating, I returned to southern California to attend the Guitar Instituted of Technology in Hollywood, and graduated from their program a year later.

Since that time, I have played in several bands, playing a variety of styles, and have done some studio work as well. At present, I perform my original material as a solo artist in clubs throughout the Los Angeles area (and sometimes we even get paid for it).

As a songwriter, I enjoy writing positive, uplifting, and humorous songs in a soft rock/light jazz style because I was tired of the typical “I’m miserable and it’s all your fault,” kind of lyrics which predominate most contemporary music. As a result, I like to perform at “spiritual” conventions and gatherings. I have studied songwriting with Jack Segal at the Songwriters Guild, and voice with Robert Sellon.

My debut album, WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT released in 1994 on ROA Records, has received several rave reviews, as well as radio airplay in six states (I believe this could be considered bragging).
